I worry!  I worry all the time about my kids.  The little ones are not ever outside alone.  Morgan, because she is older has more freedom.  It doesn’t mean I worry less…in fact if I could have my way I would not let her out of my sight either.  That wouldn’t be fair to her though…ugh.

I do feel better knowing that Morgan does have a cell phone though.  Knowing she can call me if she needs me and I can call to check on her as well.

Have you heard of Moby?  It’s a smartphone app for mom’s and families so you can privately share your location with the people that matter to you.  You can use Moby with Android and iPhone and be able to see each other’s real-time location on a map!   You can turn your location sharing off easily if needed.

There is also a Check In & Request Check In funtion!  You can use the Check In feature to quickly send your current location and a short message to one or more of your contacts, or ask that one of your Moby friends checks in with you.

This post brought to you by SPOT. All opinions are 100% mine.

I have some friends that get absolutely no cell service where they live.  Also, sometimes when the J-man and I go fishing we lose cell service.  It scares me when that happens because I am always start thinking about the “what-ifs”.  What if there was an accident and one of us were hurt and the cell service was gone?

The internet can save you so much money shopping for holiday gifts! You have all the info you need right at your fingertips without having to leave your home and fight the crowds.  You can be sure you are getting the best deal without driving from store to store.

Cheap Holiday Gifts is the goal for me and my family! There are some great deals to be had and I am going to find them!  I want to get gifts that I know the J-man and the girls actually need and will use.  Not something that will be played with for 2 days and forgotten.  That would just be throwing away money.  I want practical useful gifts for my family.

gpsFor instance, the J-man could totally use a GPS unit! He is a general contractor, so he is going to new places all the time.  Also, traveling with his band.  This is something he could use pretty much daily!  I would also like to get the family a handheld one for geo caching.  We went once not too long ago with 4H and it was a blast!

-!Apple 2GB iPod Shuffle Silver--258908820Morgan would totally dig getting the Apple 2GB iPod Shuffle! She has a cheapy MP3 player and the sound quality is horrible.  This one should be plenty good for her and allow her to listen to her music wherever she may be.  I think we are a bit behind the time since none of us have an iPod.  Honestly, I don’t even know the difference between an iPod and an MP3 player.  I think I am techy ignorant.  I’m working on it though.

I plan on getting a smartphone for myself.  I need one.  My whole life revolves around being able to access the internet.  With a smartphone I could access my life wherever I may be at anyBlackBerry Curve 8330 given moment.  I’m leaning towards the Blackberry.  A few of my friends have them and absolutely love them.  I think this would be a perfect gift for me…hint hint…

kajeet-logoI’m not a mom that thinks every kid should have a cell phone to just chit chat on wherever whenever.  I do think that cell phones for kids do have a place.  I think it is great for moms that have kids in many activities.  I also think it would be great to have one that was set up truly for emergency only.  I think it would be great not to buy a full plan, but to be able to purchase something as you need it when you need it.

kajeet let’s you do just that.  We were given a kajeet to check out and give our opinion about.  Now, I still don’t think kids need cell phones just to have one.  I do think that for safety they can be great. Kid’s that have to come home alone after school, activities, sleepovers, trips, etc.  Great reasons for a phone.  The kajeet allows you to set up a wallet and place money in the wallet of your child.  They can then use that money in the wallet to buy the plans they need.  You can purchase plans starting at only $4.99 a month for 10 min.  Perfect for an emergency situation!  They even have a GPS locator that you can activate for $9.99 a month.

blue-lg-clamI was very impressed.  After being begged by my daughter for a cell phone and getting this to try, she was very responsible and mature with the phone.  They have phones starting out at $24.99.  They actually have some pretty awesome sales right now on the phones and you can get one for less than $24.99!  Morgan received the phone pictured here.  She was able to read the manual and figure it all out on her own.  She taught herself to save phone numbers, text, etc.  This will be something we will continue to use for safety and necessity reasons.

The selling points for me are:

  • kajeet is a pay-as-you-go service. No contracts, no activation fees, no surprise bills.
  • Every kajeet phone gets these controls for FREE. Manage who your kid can talk to and text, what time of day the phone can be used (but make exceptions for calls to Mom), how much money can be spent, and what features can be used.
  • kajeet is the only cell phone service that puts kids first.blue-lg-open

What would I like to change about kajeet?  I would love it if the minutes that were unused rolled over.  For this first month we got a plan that had a lot of minutes, a lot of minutes were unused and expired.  I’m one that does not like to throw things away and really wish they would carry over to the next month.

Other than that I think the set up is great and can help teach a kid some great responsibility. The online wallet is a great tool and incentive for rewards as well!
