My T.J Maxx Deal!

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Our dishes that we have had for years are a mix match of things found and given to us.  We kept saying we were going to buy a matching set, but it was one of those things that got pushed aside.  Not anymore!

A few weeks ago I ventured on over to one of my favorite places to shop, T.J. Maxx.  I found my dishes!  Exactly what I wanted and at a great price!  I spent a long time in the store looking at all the goodies, there are always interesting things to be found at T.J. Maxx. I’ll tell you about my dishes first though!

White Dishes

I love them!  Plain white, square dishes!  I got them at a great price too!  This is a 45 piece Entertaining Set by Hotel Balfour.  The listed price was $78.00!  I bought them for $29! That my friend is a great deal!  I think the set is very pretty and goes with pretty much any mix match pieces I want to add to it.  Just look how pretty my coffee looks in the coffee cup!

White Coffee Cup Caramel Macchiato

I also picked up a great Cast Iron Skillet while I was there for only $15.00! I have always wanted one, but again this was a purchase that was pushed aside.  Couldn’t pass it up for that price!  There was so much in the kitchen supplies that caught my eye and I will be heading back soon.

I love all the unique things you can find at T.J. Maxx.  Check out this awesome cookie jar!

DSC_0002Remember the commercials….“You get the max for the minimum at TJ Maxx!” ?  It’s still true!  Do they still have that on the commercials?

When was the last time you checked out T.J. Maxx?

I Need Stuff!

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

I hate spending money and love to find a great deal on things.  Especially free things!  I really needed a wireless router and found one at a garage sale yesterday for $7.00!  I also needed the wireless thing for the computer to pick up the signal and scored a brand new one for free from the guy down the road!  Awesome!

I also scored a big wood desk that I will pick up tomorrow for free!  I desperately needed that!  Oh, and I am getting Lauren’s science curriculum for free!  This all helps me so much!

If any of you that have passed on stuff to me or gave me a great deal are reading this, THANKS!  You made my weekend!

I have some more stuff that I am looking for so I’m going to list it here in case any of my local readers have it sitting in their garages taking up precious man space.

Rugs!  I need a few of these.  One large one in neutral colors, dark browns or dark reds.  This would be for the living room.  I also need a small one for right inside the front door as well as one for in front of the kitchen sink.  Oh, also one small one for the laundry room.

I need a computer desk for Morgan, her last one bit the dust!  We could use more book shelves for sure!  We have such a huge collection and most of them are in boxes.  That’s not good…I need the books to be out and accessible!

A microscope and math manipulatives would be put to great use here!

Anyone have a table saw you want to get rid of?  My husband would put it to use pretty much daily!

If your local please feel free to list in the comments the things you are looking for!  You never know what you might find if someone knows you are looking!

Oh, and I’m always willing to barter my services for things I need!

Building The Perfect Living Room

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

J builds things.  If it can be made out of wood, that man can make it. So he is taking on building us a new entertainment center.  Our new living room has a fireplace along one wall and stairs at the opposite wall.  This makes for a challenge on getting everything to fit and be functional.

We ditched the other entertainment center we had because it was huge!  So he is going to build one that will hold the television at an angle out of the corner, with matching bookshelves tied into it.

I can not wait til he starts and I will be sure to take photos of the process to post. We also have to get new furniture and if he got his way, I am sure he would be looking into home audio speaker systems.  That will have to wait!  I want to get the rest of the house in order first.

I need bookshelves! Lots of them!  Luckily that is an easy fast build for him.  I also still need 2 desks! That is something I needed like yesterday!  I have been looking on Freecycle with no luck so far.  I’ll give craigslist a try and also the thrift stores.

Our goal is to do this all as cheaply as possible.  We want to save up so that we can build our own home soon.  Cutting costs wherever we possibly can!

Planning A Summer Family Vacation On A Budget!

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Vacations are supposed to be relaxing! Sometimes though, we are so stressed out by the cost of this “relaxing vacation” that we spend the entire time worrying about money.  That is no way to spend a vacation!

So how do you plan a stress free vacation?

Start with figuring out what you really want out of your vacation.  Ask your family for input so that you can all plan a vacation that you all enjoy.  You will also need to plan a vacation budget.  The better you plan your budget, the better your vacation will be.  I found a great family vacation budgeting form to use.  Again, be sure to include the family in this. It will all go more smoothly if everyone is on board. You could set a daily target per day of what can be spent on each activity.

Once you know what you plan to spend, start a vacation savings fund. Add to this weekly or at each paycheck. Even if you empty your pocket change each night, I promise it all adds up!

Look for discounts offered by any membership clubs you belong too. AAA, Costco Travel Club and Sam’s Travel Club can sometimes save you money on hotels, car rentals and complete vacations.  Another way to save is to travel when others are not! If you choose off season destinations you will most likely get an awesome deal on the trip and it will be significantly less crowded (a huge plus in my book).

When looking for a place to stay, search online for discounts. Also, call the hotel or resort directly to ask about current promotions and discounts. Look for accommodations that provide a kitchen. This way you can save a lot of money by not eating out. You could also look into a home swap.  A home swap is where a family stays in your home while you stay in theirs.

I personally found a lot of great information on budget vacations while searching out info on debt consolidationConsolidatedcredit.org offers a lot of information on saving money and budgets. They also offer services such as credit card debt help, credit counseling, debt management and financial education.  The financial education section is full of helpful information on budgeting.

I promise you, with planning you can have a relaxing, enjoyable family vacation without overspending!

Do you have any tips on saving while vacationing?  I would love to hear them!

Sharing My Points

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

I have been doing MyPoints for a few years now. I have earned more gift cards than I can count. I think a lot of people don’t join MyPoints because they think it is one of those things that keep making you click click click click. It is SO not like that. MyPoints sends you emails. Now in these emails it says click here to earn 5 points, 10 points or whatever. Click there…earn points. It adds up SUPER fast.

Now another way to earn points is online shopping. If you need to order something online then go to MyPoints first and see if your shop participates. You can get discounts as well as earn points from places like 123 inkjets, Target, The Gap, Drugstore.com, Snapfish….just TONS of places. When you get a lot of points you can cash them in for gift cards. I usually get them to Starbucks. Lately though, I am stockpiling my points

So, MyPoints is by invite only and I have 4 invites left for this month. If you would like one please leave me a comment so I have a way to contact you to get your Name and Email address. HURRY!

Safeway Making The Holidays Easier On Your Pocket Book!

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

I’ve said it many times before, and I’m saying it yet again! Times are tough and we all need to watch what we spend.

Safeway and its family of grocery stores (Vons, Dominick’s, Tom Thumb, Randalls, Pavilions, Carrs and Genuardi’s) are helping Moms make this season a bit easier. Shopping with Safeway‘s Club Card offers us the opportunity to earn gas rewards whenever we grocery shop, buy prescriptions, and even gift cards.

You can earn double PowerPump Gas Rewards for every $100 in gift cards purchased with your Club Card at Safeway stores. You can pick up gift cards from over 300 retailers, restaurants, sports and entertainment companies (including Best Buy, The Home Depot, Macy’s, iTunes, plus many more!).

To find a participating store near you, go to www.Safeway.com/PowerPump and enter your zip code. You can use the giftcards as presents or for your personal use to receive the extra benefit of double gas rewards at the pump. The offer of double PowerPump gas rewards on gift cards will only be available through the holidays.
