Archive for Eyeglasses

I’m sure a lot of you have really been shelling out some cash for your kids back to school needs!  This time of year also brings the need for check-ups such as eye exams.  A lot of times this means a new prescription too. I’ve talked about it before and I’m bringing it up again. I have back up this time from Clark Howard!

Get your prescription eyeglasses online! Trust me, this is where I order from and it’s where Clark Howard get’s his glasses as well.  For as little as $7 a pair you can have a nice new pair of glasses from ZenniOptical.com!  Clark even mentions them in his new book ”Living Large in Lean Times“, with tips on how to improve your finances in just a week!

It’s super simple! I know you probably think it’s a hassle to order them  online.  It’s NOT!  Trust me, I don’t do anything that is a hassle…I have too much to deal with already. All you do is have your Eye Doctor write down your PD (pupil distance) measurement for you when they give you your prescription.  That is all you need to order online.

Do yourself a favor and save some money this way.  It’s a simple way to trim back your expenses.  Also, you won’t feel so horrible when your kid comes home with a busted pair of glasses from a friendly game of dodge ball….

I’ve blogged about the subject before, but it is really worth talking about again!  Especially for those of you with children.  Eye glasses can be pricey!  Even if you have insurance, sometimes glasses break…especially when they belong to children.  Shocking right? Sometimes you want a spare (which I highly recommend!  I keep a pair in the car and in the house).  Or maybe you’re just that stylish and want a pair to match every outfit!  Well, with what I am about to share, you could totally afford it! Eye Exams!

by Brandy

glassesI’m thinking is time to take Lauren in for her first eye exam to see if she needs eyeglasses like her sister.  I took Morgan in at a much younger age because of something that happened so suddenly with her.  Her eyes were fine then one day one started to wander. Normally it would happen when she was sleepy.  So at the age of 3 I took her for her first exam.

Morgan is now 12 and still wearing prescription glasses.  Her vision is near perfect now, but her eye is still a little weak.   They say this is something she could outgrow and that she is not a candidate for the corrective surgery.  Apparently there is a difference between what Morgan’s eye does and an actual “Lazy Eye“.  Her doctor said her’s is not that bad.

As she has gotten older her eye only tends to wander after she has left her glasses off for an extended amount of time.  She normally only does that while swimming.  Other than that she wears her glasses all of the time and has never given us any issues about it. Lately though, she has expressed an interest in contacts.  We will have to discuss this with her eye doctor.

Lauren has not shown any of these symptoms of a weak eye, nor has she had any vision problems.  I just think that this is probably the right age to take her into get checked.  She will be 6 this month.  I doubt she will need prescription eyeglasses, but you never can tell.

When did you take your child for their first eye exam if they seemed to have no vision or eye problems?

pink-glassesMy daughter Morgan wears glasses.  She has since she was very little.  Luckily for us, she has always taken excellent care of her glasses.  In all of these years we have only had 2 pairs get broken.  It is a constant worry though.  Like when she played softball, I constantly stressed about her glasses getting smashed.

This is why Zenni Optical grabbed my attention!  They have $ 8 Rx eyeglasses. Her most recent pair of glasses were over $200! Thankfully they were purchased by her grandparents as a gift (she got transition lens, so that was something special).  At $8 a pop though, she could have pairs to match every outfit.  This is a concern as children get older.  They want fashion and style!  They want everything to look good together.  I love the pair pictured above!  I know they would look super cool on Morgan.

Check out Zenni Optical on TV!! This is a very informative news story on Zenni Optical. I also read a great review which gave a High Five to Zenni Optical.

I think this is a great thing for parents, especially those looking for great back to school deals! I’m always looking for more ways to save money and this one is an A+!
