Last week I told you that my family was taking part in the Champions for Kids Simple Service Projectby filling a stocking with Disney Themed items and donating it to be given to a child in need. It’s a good way to encourage a giving spirit in my kids.
A lot kids didn’t get anything for Christmas. It’s really very sad. I look at my own kids as they open their gifts and know how heart breaking it must be not to see that Christmas morning joy on a child’s face.
So we signed up for the project on the Champions for Kids website and then we headed to Walmart to get some fun Disney themed items to fill our stocking. You can see our whole shopping trip by visiting our Google+ story.
Emma, Lauren and Morgan had a great time shopping! They chose to shop for items to fill a stocking that would make a little girl happy. Our local Walmart ran out of the stockings that we wanted, so we did purchase our stocking elsewhere.
I was so impressed with my girls! They had no problem picking out things to give. There was no selfishness or sadness about wanting to keep these things for themselves. We took all of our purchases home and got busy wrapping them all up.
We kept everything themed with Disney Princesses and Tinker Bell. Lip Balm, jewelry, bubbles, stickers, a Tinker Bell doll and Even a Tinker Bell wallet! We also added a single serving Hot Chocolate mix!
We couldn’t fit everything into our stocking, so we just carried those separately to take to donate. The girls and I decided that we wanted to take our stocking to the Fire Department that is local to us. Considering how many house fires happen during the Holidays we thought this was a good idea. The girls remembered how last winter their friend that lives across the street had a house fire caused by the fire place.
They wanted to make sure that another little girl had something special to cheer her up in case that was to happen again. Also, we know that the fire department will make sure that the stocking goes to a good home.
Morgan would NOT get in the photo and Emma was too shy. I was so proud that Lauren went up and handed over the stocking and presents to the firemen and had her photo taken with them. She has come such a long way!
How do you teach your children to have a giving, serving heart?

I like to think that we have done a darn good job with the girls. No, I’m not saying they are perfect. No one is perfect. I’m just saying that I have very loving, caring unselfish children. It makes me proud.
One way that we have accomplished this in our children was by instilling a giving spirit. They volunteer, preform community service projects, create service projects and much more. They are also really into sharing what they have with others. We are far from rich, but I can tell you that my girls would give another person the shirts off their backs. They would give up their favorite toy to make someone else smile.
One way that we give back during the holiday season is by making others smile. The girls go through everything in their rooms on a regular basis and pass on toys and clothing to others in need. We also prepare food items as gifts, volunteer at the food banks as well as other service projects through our scouting activities.
Yes, my girls are excited to open presents on Christmas morning, but they are also excited to make others happy as well.
Champions for Kids works to mobilize MILLIONS of people by providing training and resources to improve the lives of children in communities across America and beyond. Their goal is to mobilize 20 Million people by 2020.
The project is simple and fun! The girls and I will head to Walmart and pick out Disney themed items to fill a stocking with. We will then donate the stocking to a local children’s charity.
Did You Know?
• 44% of children in the United States live in low-income families.
• 16 million children live in families that are caught in the gap between the official poverty line and a living wage, which means they often don’t qualify for government assistance but still have difficulty meeting basic food, child care, and household needs. The holidays are a particularly challenging time for these families.
• Over 400,000 children were in foster care last year. The holidays can be emotionally difficult for many of these children who are no longer with their biological parents.
• Each day in America, thousands of children in our schools don’t have the resources to learn. These children typically need basic education tools such as pens, paper and notebooks. They also need basic items such as socks, gloves, warm coats and shoes.
Be sure to watch for my post with our finished stocking and to find out where we donated it to.

I sure do enjoy watching these classics with my girls! Dumbo was the 4th animated film by Walt Disney. It was released back in 1941. Each time I am blown away by the quality! How do they do that? (read below for this answer) Taking something so old and making it look so awesome! Dumbo is definitely much better to watch these days!
Emma and Lauren really liked it. They loved Dumbo’s character! There were some parts that made Emma and Lauren very sad. Like when Dumbo was away from mama. But that all changed…they were not sad at all and were highly entertained for the duration of the movie. They said that it was so funny how the big elephants were so afraid of the mouse.
I wish you could hear them talk about it, I really should do videos for things like this.
Faced with the daunting task of restoring the film to its original pristine condition, the Walt Disney Studios Restoration Team turned to the US Library of Congress who store the original 70 year old nitrate camera negative in their film vaults, and for reference, to an original 1941 ‘release’ print, held by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). Using this rare nitrate “dye-transfer” Technicolor print for color reference, the team was able to restore Dumbo to the color settings most likely approved by Walt Disney himself, which will be seen in their full splendor for the first time in 70years, on the Blu-ray debut. In addition, the rare film print (housed as part of the UCLA Film and Television Archives collection) proved to be the earliest surviving generation of the original audio for Dumbo which provided a unique source from which to build the new Disney Enhanced Home Theatre (DEHT) mix for the Blu-ray release.

I also wanted to let you know that Winnie the Pooh is on it’s way! The Blu-ray & DVD will be released on October 25th, 2011!
I can not wait for my girls to see it! When I went to Hollywood I was lucky enough to get to meet some of the main creators of this movie! We were able to see a sneak peak, they gave me a cuddly Piglet doll and the best part…I have an original signed and numbered sketch from the actual mock ups! That was like one of the biggest moments in my life! Being an artist and having someone give me an original piece of Disney animation history???? Blew my mind! Thank you Disney!
This is one of my must have magazines! Disney Family Fun Magazine is always loaded with great ideas! This is a fantastic deal! A whole year for only $5.99!
This is soooo awesome and I hate that we have to wait until 2013 to see it! The cast includes Academy Award® nominee James Franco (“127 Hours”) as the young wizard, Golden Globe® nominee Mila Kunis (“Black Swan”) as the witch Theodora, Academy Award® winner Rachel Weisz (“The Constant Gardener”) as Kunis’ sister Evanora and two-time Oscar®-nominated actress Michelle Williams (“Brokeback Mountain,” “Blue Valentine”) as Glinda, the Good Witch.
The cast also includes Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominee Zach Braff (“Scrubs,” “Garden State”), who will play Franco’s circus assistant as well as lend his vocal talents to one of the CGI creatures in the story — Finley, the winged monkey who accompanies the magician on his journey to Oz; and 12-year-old actress Joey King (“Ramona and Beezus”), who will voice another CGI character in the story, China Girl, who also joins the future Wizard on his excursion through Oz.
Production on “Oz The Great and Powerful” will take place entirely on site at the new Raleigh Michigan Studios, the 200,000 square foot sound stage facility in Pontiac, Michigan, once the location of General Motors’ Centerpoint business campus and truck manufacturing plant.
“Oz The Great and Powerful” will be released through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on March 8, 2013.
“Oz The Great and Powerful” imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.
When I was in Hollywood I was able to see some behind the scenes work and a sneak peek of the movie! It was such an awesome experience for me. Have you already seen the new movie? It came out in theaters on the 15th! I would love to hear what you and you family thought!
Walt Disney Animation Studios returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with “Winnie the Pooh.” Featuring the timeless charm, wit and whimsy of the original short films, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Roo—and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail. “Ever have one of those days where you just can’t win, Eeyore?” asks Pooh. Owl sends the whole gang on a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit. It turns out to be a very busy day for a bear who simply set out to find some honey. Inspired by three stories from A.A. Milne’s books in Disney’s classic, hand-drawn art style, “Winnie the Pooh” hits theaters in the U.S. on July 15, 2011.
I would love to take my family to Disney! This Free Disney Vacation Planning DVD is a great way to get all the details set up so that you get the most out of your vacation! Best thing is the DVD is FREE! Grab it quick.
As a huge Johnny Depp fan, I am ashamed to admit that I have not yet made it to the theater to see Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. I know it’s horrible and hurts me deeply. I need some mama movie time.
About the Movie…Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed adventure. Crossing paths with the enigmatic Angelica (Penélope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s love—or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. Read More→
When it comes to eating out with Jeremy or friends, I choose to go to Chili’s. Our Chili’s is right next to the theater that we always go to, so movie night means Chili’s night!
I normally order the Buffalo Chicken Salad, which is so indescribably delicious! Seriously, I crave that salad like crazy. My friend Jenny and I usually order that and split it alopng with something else, something like the Skillet Que-so…another marvelously yummy menu item. Oh and the salsa is so good! Read More→

When Kelly walked in and seen us his eyes got really big and he said “Hello. Wow, wow, this is sort of like British court or something.“ Right then we new he was going to be laid back and fun to interview. Read More→
