Archive for Community service for kids

morgans_hairYou all know that we are active in Denton County 4H.  After many recent trips to our local park at the lake, Morgan has decided she wants to make a differenceArrowhead Park at Lake Lewisville in Hickory Creek is TRASHED.  She wants to change this.  She already sent an email out to the Mayor of Hickory Creek.

She could really use your support and we could really use some company sponsors on this.  She sent an email to GLAD today to see about sponsorship with them in providing garbage bags.  We also need sponsors to provide food, snacks and drinks! Sponsors to provide work gloves, since it is littered with trash and glass!  Rubber gloves will not cut it.  We are also looking for a sponsor to provide a digital camera and or video camera to document the project!

She will be doing this as a leadership project as well as community service.  We will be setting up her website over the next week, where she will be posting about the goals and progress of this project.  I’m super proud of her for taking on such a huge project! If you are local and want to be involved please let us know!  If you want to donate anything to help, such as goods or money just let us know!

Thanks so much for any support you can give her on this huge project!

dscf4119Today Morgan and I volunteered at the Denton Community Food Center.  We had a great time and plan on going back whenever we can get away without the little ones.  The people there are so super nice!

The food center is located at: 109 W. Sycamore in Denton, TX.  They provide staple food supplies to families/individuals that are in an emergency situation.  The food center accepts donations of food and money.

Volunteers are always needed on a regular basis.  They are open Monday-Friday from 1-3 p.m.

Some of the volunteer tasks include:

  • screening families
  • filling orders
  • maintaining supplies
  • stocking shelves
  • keeping the food center in order. dscf4118

It’s nice to give back! Get in there and volunteer!  This will count towards her 4H community service and be added to the memory book we are working on now.

Morgan clowningMorgan is involved in her 4H groups clowning troupe.  They have a lot of fun with this and do community service through clowning.  They learn some fun skills, while learning to make others smile.

Most recently the kids went to entertain the children at a Mothers Day out program at a local church.  The kids were so excited to see all the clowns and learn some clowning tricks of their own!dscf3902

They learned how to do magic tricks, juggle, balloon tying and even face Morgan Face Paintingpainting.  Morgan chose to do face painting for her part.

They have plans to go to a local nursing home soon, which should be a lot of fun!  I’m not sure what else is in store for these clowns, but I do know they are enjoying it!

Like I have told you before, 4H is a lot more than just farm life!
