I decided that this year I would participate in Annie Manning’s Let’s Do 52!  She has themes set for each week of the year and  I like the challenge that it creates for me.  This week the choice was Responsibility or Open.  I chose Responsibility.

It’s not to late to join up!  You can do this theme until Saturday and then a new theme will be posted.  You can set up a free account on flickr if you do not have an account already and then join her group.

I think this shirt is probably the best kids shirt I have ever seen!  Self esteem seems to be one of the biggest problems for kids these days…it really saddens me.  Being a mom of three girls puts this issue as a top priority, I want my girls to know that they are awesome and beautiful!

My Kinda Style has a lot of cute shirts for Boys, Girls and even wee your itty bitty babies and toddlers!!  They have a ton of great designs, but this one is my favorite!  Our kids are perfect just the way they are!  Let’s make sure they know that too!

My Kinda Style is based in Oklahoma that launched just this year! The company has a mission to encourage positive self esteem in children. That makes this a company I want to support and help promote.

My Kinda Style has also launched a section on their website where you can send in your nomination for a deserving person or child ‘in need’ who the company can reward, now, and continue in a much larger capacity as the company continues to grow.  How is that for fantastic?

Consider My Kinda Style for the perfect gift this Christmas! The shirt shown above can be purchased for only $19.  Prices range from $16 to $21.  See the styles here http://mykindastyle.com/shop/.

Have you heard of Babydot? I hadn’t heard of them until now, so I decided to do a bit of research…

Babydot is a new service that delivers the baby supplies you need right to your home! This way you have them when you need them without having to worry about getting out…which is especially nice since it sure is getting cold out there!

I’m talking  diapers, wipes, and formula.

You simply build your box with the products you use.  In about a week your box will be there at your home.  Guess what? Shipping is always FREE! I seen that they also give you some freebies with your boxes!  For instance, this month it says the freebies are:

  • Skip Hop Dunck Stacking Bath Cup: Makes bath time fun and easy.
  • Mustela Facial Cleansing Cloths: The softest thing to ever touch your babies face.

Fun!

If I were to have another baby, I could see myself using this for some of our needs.  You can set it up to ship monthly, weekly or one time. I would probably set it to a monthly shipment of Seventh Generation Baby Wipes for using on the go since I cloth diaper and breast feed.  For those that use Diapers, Wipes and Formula I think this is fantastic!

Enter the Babydot Ultimate Baby Box Giveaway!

Prize Details (Retail Value: $75):

This is a guest post from my friend Janna, mother of Baby Darby

Hello everyone! I’m long overdue in posting an update about Darby, but as in most cases, no news is good news!

I’ll start with the back story that many of you already know. Darby was born healthy but jaundiced. At 11 weeks of age, she was diagnosed with biliary atresia, which is a rare liver disease, and she received the Kasai procedure to buy time until her inevitable liver transplant. You also may recall she had a life-threatening bleed repaired following the first surgery. At Darby’s age, the surgery was unusually successful in restoring bile flow! This is why Darby is no longer yellow, as most babies with liver disease are. Too much damage and scarring (cirrhosis) had already been done to Darby’s liver, so she developed portal hypertension, which causes a build up of fluid in the abdomen (ascites.) We also discovered she has severe allergies to milk and eggs. Many BA babies will need nutritional assistance through a feeding tube, and in March, almost 6 months ago, Darby went back into surgery to drain significant ascites and get a g-tube.

Since my last update, Darby was referred to the transplant team in Dallas. She underwent an extensive evaluation, and they unanimously decided to actively list her on the transplant waiting list. During the testing, they discovered she had a few heart conditions that will only be monitored, not treated. Currently, she is being followed and receiving lab draws monthly. She has a low score, but could receive the call any day. The g-tube has had a few complications, but has allowed her to gain weight and grow very well! She is allowed to eat as many solids as she can. Six weeks ago, Darby began crawling and now she’s cruising and getting ready to walk. Things are going great for us right now, and I pray that she will continue to stay strong and healthy until she receives her perfect gift. Thank you all for your prayers and well-wishes for Baby Darby!

Haircutwmsmall

I got my hair cut! I talked about it awhile back asking for opinions.  Well Saturday the deed was done!  My friend came over to the house and did it for me.  I let her just do it.  I had no input and trusted her 100%.

I like it!  What do you think? No more ponytails for sure!  She made fun of me the whole time because of my gray hairs.  I guess it’s time to dye again.  Kind of faded looking anyhow and my roots are over an inch long!  I guess that will be my next hair project!

I also got to take pics of her pretty new baby!  Her name is Saylor and she is sooooo sweet.  She was hungry when I started snapping pics, but still gave out some pretty smiles!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of HealthyTuna.com. All opinions are 100% mine.

home-midlogoWhen I was pregnant I was warned to stay away from Seafood.  I’m sure a lot of you were as well.  It really wasn’t a big issue to me since I don’t really eat it.  I’m allergic to Shellfish, so I never really experimented in trying a lot of Seafood.  There is one food from the Sea that my family absolutely loves and that is Tuna.  When Doctors tell you to stay away from Seafood, they are referring to fish that is high in Mercury, such as shark, mackerel, swordfish, tilefish.   A recent study reveals that it is actually smart to eat seafood during pregnancy.

This scientific study shows how seafood/tuna is healthy and important for pregnant women and for the healthy growth and development of small children.  It also states that not Eating Fish During Pregnancy May Increase Your Chances of Depression. I suffered from depression during each of my pregnancies.  I wonder if I had consumed some seafood if that would have been different?

Researchers found that moms-to-be that did not eat seafood were nearly 50 percent more likely to have symptoms of depression than those who ate seafood at least three times per week (12 or more ounces weekly).  Marine foods like fish are the only naturally rich source of a special omega-3 fatty acid called DHA. DHA effects our mental health.  DHA is also needed for the best possible brain and eye development in babies.  Tuna is an excellent source of lean protein and is also rich in vitamin D and calcium. Both of which are needed for a healthy pregnancy.

There is also information from another study that states that women who averaged about 2 ounces of fish per day, had children 25% more likely to have higher developmental scores at 6 months! Almost 30% more were likely to have higher scores at 18 months.

So, maybe the next pregnancy (don’t freak out mom…this is hypothetical) I should try to fit in some healthy tuna recipes.  Maybe it would ease the depression that comes on when I am pregnant.

Here is one of the Tuna recipes I prepare for my family, feel free to share yours in the comments.

Tuna Surprise Casserole

  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/4 C. chopped onions
  • 3 C. chopped celery
  • 1 can (7 oz.) Tuna Fish, rinsed and drained
  • 1 can (8 1/2 oz.) condensed Cream of Mushroom soup
  • 1 can (8 1/2 oz.) condensed Cream of Celery soup
  • 3 Tbsp. milk
  • 3 Tbsp. Soy Sauce
  • 1 can (4 oz.) Chow Mien Noodles
  • 1/2 C. broken Cashew Nuts

Melt the butter in a saucepan and add the onion and celery.  Cook until tender (about 10 min).  Add the Tuna Fish, soups, milk and soy sauce.  Add 1/2 of the noodles and nuts.  Put this mixture into a  greased 1 1/2 quart casserole dish.  Cover the mixture with the remaining noodles and nuts.  bake uncovered in a 350 degree oven for about 25 min.  Serve with hot rolls.
