How to Get Rid of Raccoons in The Attic When You’re Broke

09.23.2017 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

Raccoons are cute right?  But how cute are those little jerks when they are tearing up your home?  Here is an easy step by step guide on how to get rid of raccoons in the attic.  An easy step by step guide to evict those little terrors from your home.

It starts with a thump and some scurrying sounds.  It’s random and sporadic when mama moves in she isn’t that noisy until of course, she has her litter of crazies.  Then it is a non-stop party in the attic.  Like a rave going on up there.  Daytime, nighttime….it doesn’t matter.  They are ready to party nearly 24/7.

We tried everything to get them out.  We played music.  We threw ammonia soaked tennis balls up there.  We pounded on the ceiling.  We couldn’t trap the mama because that would have left the babies up there and they would have died.   We had no idea how many there were until we finally got the mama to start moving them.  4 babies and one big ‘ol mama.   We couldn’t afford to hire someone to come in and do it.  We also couldn’t get up in the attic to get the babies because our house only has a tiny little opening cut for the attic access.  Don’t ask why, because I have no idea.

How to Get Rid of Raccoons in The Attic

Seriously, this was the simplest thing ever and anyone can do it.  All you need is something you can hook your phone or computer to so that it is loud.  We used a portable stereo that has a port to plug in a phone.

Pull up this video on your phone…

Yes, this is a youtube video of 12 hours of an Ambulance Siren.  This pissed that mama raccoon right off and she immediately began moving babies out of our attic.  It took her all day, sometimes she was gone for over an hour before coming back for the next baby.  But she didn’t quit until she had removed them all and safely moved them somewhere else.

Here is one of the babies and his very first climb, they had never been out of the attic before this…
