Could it really be happening? Finally my dream of a small mini farm is starting? I do believe it is so! It has been raining pretty much non stop over here, which we all know causes me major pain flares. Instead of sitting and suffering I chose to work. Work as much as I could handle.
First of all, Morgan and I went in the drizzling rain and scavenged more chicken enclosure stuff from a lady that is moving. We tore down so much and walked away with no climb fencing, chicken wire, nesting boxes, netting (to protect from hawks and other crafty critters that may try to eat our future chickens, t-posts and even a gate! Today I am headed back to get cinder blocks and wood. All for just the labor of tearing it down! As you can see it was overgrown with vines, that was a lot of work! This photo is after a lot had been torn down and actually only shows half of it!
Yesterday the girls and I began constructing the chicken enclosure. No pics because it was raining the entire time and I didn’t want to get my camera wet and I had left my phone in the house. I would say we got about 3/4 of the way done! We drove t-posts, rigged a gate, installed fencing and are working hard to critter proof the whole thing. The area is pretty big. We used the end of the open faced barn and sectioned it off and then extended it out so the chickens will have plenty of safe outdoor yard to run around in. I am hoping to get our first chickens in a few days….exciting!
Right now we have land full of visitors! At first we had 14 mini donkeys and mini horses grazing the land while introducing the babies into the area. Then after a few days the adults left and now we have one adult mini donkey, 2 baby mini donkeys, 1 adult mini horse and 3 baby mini horses. Today the adult mini horse will leave and then we will just have the babies and the adult mini donkey. Her name is Luna and she is the great grandmother. She will stay to look after the babies. Our job? To socialize the babies and get them ready for new homes away from their mothers.
Well, it’s time for me to get back to work! Work seems to never end out here!
