Did you know that bike riding is the second most popular outdoor activity in America behind running? I would have thought biking was most popular since I really don’t like to run. I used to be an avid bike rider. My friend Susie and I used to ride almost everyday. We would ride 15 miles to the only town near us that actually had stuff, hang out all day. Eat Chinese food, then get Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream and then ride all the way back home. I had killer legs.
Did you know that riding on a regular basis can reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke by 50 percent? It is also a great way to spend sometime outdoors with the family, or some alone time if you prefer! Check out this infographic from Master Lock that highlights the stats about the health benefits of bike riding, the top cities for cyclists and more! Just 3 hours of bike riding per week and you can reduce your risk of stroke and heart disease by 50%! 50% people for only 3 hours a week of doing something that is fun! I really need to get myself a new bike, I love those beach cruisers! Big cushy seats are so comfy!
A new survey from Master Lock revealed that more than one-third of riders don’t lock up their bikes, and nearly half of Americans have had their bike stolen, or know someone who has. I have always locked up my bikes…then again I lived in Flint, Michigan. There was no way you could leave your bike out and it not get stolen. Don’t risk getting your bike stolen! Lock that baby up and teach your kids to take care of their own bikes as well. Master Lock sent us an awesome bike lock.
The lock we chose was the 8220D Cable Lock. There are other options available like the 8170D U-Lock as well. I like the Cable better because it seemed to give more freedom to lock the bikes up to different things. I love that you can set your own password combination! I have a hard time remembering number sequences, so word combos are a great option for me as well as the kids. It’s easy to set and if you need to reset it you can! It even comes with a Mounting bracket so that you can transport it easily.
The 8220D Cable Lock is not just for bikes! There are many things you can use it for, some ideas are Gates, Grills & Lawnmowers, Tools, Ladders and much more. I think we are going to pick up another in this style to use to lock the dog kennel to prevent someone from opening it when it should not be opened.
Oh, it’s affordable as well! At a suggested list price of $17.13, that is a lot cheaper than replacing a bike that gets stolen! So get yourself out there riding! Improve your health, decrease stress, spend quality time with the family and then lock it up so you can do it again and again!
Master Lock sent us the cable lock shown above to facilitate our review. No compensation was received and all opinions are our own.
