Yes, I am doing that! 21 days of no spending except necessities. Things like groceries, rent, utilities, etc are needs. The 21 day fast knocks out the wants!
So far I am doing pretty well. I am using the book The Power to Prosper: 21 Days to Financial Freedom to guide me through this on a daily basis. The book is wonderful and full of in your face words of wisdom. No sugar coating!
I started on the 21st, So that puts me on day five. So far so good! On day 3 I was sad. I knew that I had committed to not spending any money on anything that was not required. But I really wanted to donate to the gas fund for my friend Janna. An amazing thing happened! As I opened my book and read day 3, this is what I seen…
And God is Able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all thinks at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8
Main Point: To whom much is given, much is required.
My Pledge: I will identify someone – a friend, family member, neighbor, or co-worker – who needs help either with cash (I can afford to give away) or my time. I will use God’s generosity towards me as an example of how to be generous to others. As I prosper, I will share my wealth with others.
Isn’t it crazy? That is what I read the day that I was wanting to donate to Janna’s gas fund? I was struggling with it and right there was a message in my face! Right then and there I logged online to see that I had received some advertising payments and I was able to donate to Janna’s gas fun!
It’s no secret that I am broke. My medical bills drain us. But I was still buying that magazine at the checkout line, still getting that coke at sonic and occasionally still getting myself a starbucks. Well no more. All that little stuff ads up and isn’t a need, it’s a want. Most of those magazines come home to be left untouched. I can look up all of that info online for free. It was a stupid habit. It’s broken and gone now.
I’ll continue to update on my spending fast. I encourage you to get the book and commit to your own 21 day spending fast while taking on the tasks outlined in the book. You will be a better person for it. It’s definitely eye opening!
I was not asked to review this book. I purchased this book on my own at Mardels. All opinions are my own.
