A EUROPEAN RIVER CRUISE IS A GREAT VACATION!

My life went from the dog house to the penthouse simply because of Premier River Cruises and Uniworld Boutique River Cruises and here’s why. My wife and I were looking at how we could celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary – you know something really special.

From where I sat, we really should not over spend on this trip because both of us were now retired and the recent economic downturn had hit us pretty hard. My wife’s view was, we’re not getting any younger, we had worked hard and now we should enjoy this once in a lifetime event, a Milestone Event in our lives.

She said, this was to be more than a celebration of a special anniversary, it might be her only chance to see where her grandparents were born which was in Hungary, then go to places she had always dreamed about; Vienna, Prague, and of course, Budapest. We looked at expensive land tours and talked to many people. I just did not see us having an ability to spend so much money and told her that we must find something else to do – this was not in the budget given our financial condition.

She was devastated, crushed and I was a real “jerk” to her and to a few close friends. I too, felt like a real heal, but what else could I say or do? We just could not afford such an expensive trip at this particular time, but I kept searching for something, anything and that’s when I stumbled onto the website for Premier River Cruises who were advertising an Eastern Europe River cruise.

Long story made short, I fell in love with their agent Dawn, [from Scotland] who after talking with me, explained that we could do everything we wanted and below the budget I had in mind. She booked us on a Uniworld River Cruise trip starting in Passau [Munich] that sailed to Budapest.
Much to my surprise I found river cruises to be very affordable and rewarding. In fact, we saved so much because of the special deal Premier River Cruises had, we were able to get what they call a “French Balcony” with a floor to ceiling view of the world for just a few bucks more.

So, how could we afford it you ask? We chose to go a bit off season, great weather, but prices a bit more reasonable. Because river cruises are so all inclusive, the only extra we had to pay for were drinks at the bar [wine and beer included at dinner] and our tipping. The staff was so incredible, I probably over tipped, but they were sensational during the entire time aboard our luxurious river cruise ship.

Best of all we unpacked and packed only once, did as much or as little as we wanted to do, enjoyed the gym and even enjoyed a sauna or two. These intimate ships generally dock right in the center of town where you are only footsteps away from the local residents, the best sights, and if you choose, a great place to sit, have a pastry and espresso and relax as the world passes before you.

My wife now thinks I’m a genius and walk on water. Our “included” sightseeing provided by Uniworld allowed us to see almost everything we wanted as we sailed down the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers from Passau to Budapest. We spent three glorious nights [included in price] after the cruise in Budapest and visited the area my wife’s family lived – a “Priceless Moment” for us both.

This was a great idea and the most perfect way to celebrate our anniversary. We can’t wait to go again, maybe a Seine river cruise, and take along some friends. We used a very knowledgeable agency that specializes in river cruise vacations, Premier River Cruises who even gave us a free limo ride to/from the airport to acknowledge our special celebration.
