My 12 yr old, Busted by the Cops!

If you live in Lake Dallas, Texas, you better be sure your children do not play.  If they play…as in wrestle, tackle or anything physical they could be busted by the Lake Dallas police.  No rough housing!  Apparently wrestling around is considered fighting and is a crime here.

I remember when I was a kid.  You didn’t really have to worry about getting in trouble for being a kid.  Kids played so they stayed out of trouble.  Things are so strict now that kids can not even skate board or play a game of football without breaking the “law”.  People wonder why kids get in trouble, because they are bored since they are not allowed to have fun and get some energy out.

I was shocked when Morgan and her friends had 2 police cars, lights and sirens full force roll up on them.  The police scared them to death.  No one was fighting, all of the kids were friends and simply playing.

…meanwhile the child molester of our neighborhood lives next to the school and stands outside and watches the children walking to school and playing at recess…hmmm, where’s the priorities?  I’m thinking the cops are harassing and frightening the wrong people.

Does this look like the face of a trouble making criminal?  By they way, this is Morgan speaking before the Mayor about the community clean up she arranged on her own.

Or how about this photo of Morgan in her clowning group that preforms community service, she is totally a trouble maker!

Or maybe it’s her volunteer time at the food banks that makes her a look like a criminal?  Going door to door collecting food for the needy in her own personal food drive?  Volunteering at Horsemanship classes?  I could go on and on…

Here is one last photo of Morgan with the Mayor of Hickory Creek when she got approval for her clean up of Arrowhead park!  Pillar of the community or young criminal, you decide…

Totally! It’s so stupid! Now Morgan is paranoid, she should think the cops are the people to go to when you need help, not constantly looking over her shoulder thinking she is doing something wrong.

I know, I was so shocked and she was in tears, worried the mayor would find out and that she would have a record, which by the way she does not. I’m pissed that they did not TALK TO ME.

That’s horrible. They are likely teaching the kids to fear and disrespect the police too.

It really is very sad anymore. Kids aren’t allowed to go be kids for fear that they’ll get accused of being bad or even kidnapped and killed! This world just sucks for our kids and it makes me sad.

get used to it, this is the socialism our country is set up for. Clean house everywhere..the cops, the gove, all of them.

    utterly embarrassing.

your child is amazing, what a true citizen. Tell her to not let it get her down. I was arrested once and i survived. LOL

So true! It just pissed me off that our kids can not enjoy the same childhood as we did. No wonder kids are stuck in the house playing video games…they are not allowed to do anything else!

What happened when/after the police showed up?

    • Brandy says:

They scared them. I was very upset that they did not come and talk to me. It pisses me off that they did this without talking to the parents.

  14. Penelope says:

I hope everything is cleared up. Because of the problem with bullying, I can understand police being very strict (imagine your child was a target of a bully who claimed to be “kidding” while terrorizing kids with mean-spirited rough housing).

You have a good kid, so I’m sure it will blow over. Sorry this happened though :(

    • Brandy says:

The cops could have checked on the situation to see if there was one without scaring the children to death and telling them they were not allowed to play. Once they came and the kids said “hey, we’re all friends and just playing” they should have let it go. One of the parents that live on that street even came out and was told to “mind his own business”. Again, the cops never came and talked to me!

  15. Sounds like maybe the cops have too much time on their hands. Maybe they don’t need as many hours or as much staff? How would they feel when their department gets cut because they’re not doing what they’re supposed to be doing and looking for trouble where there is none? I can think of a lot of better ways some of that tax money could be spent.

I argue that they get in to trouble because of stupid laws that keep tightening around the necks of good kids. It seems that everywhere you turn there is another law limiting the growth of our youth.

Pretty soon they will say ‘no running allowed’ so they can tell the bad guys from regular people. Obesity is at an all time high these days and all they can think of to do is to arrest kids who are burning off their energies.

I feel so bad for your daughter. That isn’t right at all. From your description, she sounds like a model child. Someone that any parent would thank their lucky stars for.

I think an apology from the Police Department that is supposed to protect them is in order.

  18. I am so sorry this happened. This is beyond ridiculous. Honestly, I would take it a step higher and start filing complaints. You know, maybe the mayor would like to know how his officers are acting since a poor child is now fearing PLAYING. This ticks me off.

Absolutely insane!!! Your daughter is trying to grow up as an upstanding citizen; the police are trying to make her fear “authority figures”. Hopefully your post will open some eyes because there is absolutely no excuse for this. Sadly though I think this will be happening more and more. Our country is going down the tubes-with some Drano to help it along.

What I don’t understand is why the police would intervene when kids are outside playing yet they won’t intervene if children are getting bullied in school.

  23. Stephanie says:

I agree that maybe you should talk to the mayor. Isn’t he a teacher? If I were you I would talk to him rather than having Morgan do it. I think you have a legitimate point that the police never talked to you and disregarded what the parent said that they did speak with. I can understand the police thinking that they might be breaking up bullying and therefore turning on their sirens. However, they really needed to talk with all of the parents of the kids involved if they wanted to do justice by the situation!

Also, while you’re talking with the mayor, you might mention something about the child molester. Is the guy listed in the sex offender registry? I looked at the registry about a year ago and there were quite a few people here in LD. SCARY! However, I thought there was a law about how close they could come to a school or place with children. Was I wrong about the law??

  24. A lot of communities have laws about how close sex offenders can live to a school. If there isn’t a law in your community maybe it’s time to have petitions signed to get it on a ballot so you can make it one.
The police in your community must be bored. I could understand if it was a bunch of kids hanging out after curfew (does your community have one, ours does, it’s 10pm for anyone under 18). Yet, if it’s daytime and the kids are together and none of them complain to the cops that anyone is doing something wrong than the police need to just leave them alone, otherwise I think it’s harassment. Turning on the sirens and bunches of cops is overkill and a waste of taxpayers money.

I had an incident one time where the police was called. The officer at the scene informed me that he was there to protect the criminal not the victims. Now you know why they don’t bother the sex offender.

  26. Brandy says:

Poor Morgan. I know my first thought was with all the bullying going on they might be saving their own behinds but to not even come talk to the parents or any adults that’s just insane.
