Yes, you read it right. Educational vacations! The J-man and I had planned to take several trips around Texas this year with the kids camping. All of these mini trips were going to revolve around some great historical locations. We thought this would be an awesome way to teach the kids some Texas history.
Having the surgery threw a wrench in our plans, but we are still planning some of these mini vacations. I mean really there isn’t going to be much of an expense to them since we plan on camping and cooking for ourselves. We plan to hit some ghost towns around Texas as well.
Think about how much more fun it will be to learn about things like the Civil War by actually visiting Civil War Battlefields as compared to just reading about them in a text book! Much more fun is the answer I get from my family. So think about making your summer vacations a bit more educational this year!

Because my husband works for an airline, we are able to travel to many wonderful places. My oldest grandson just turned 10 years old and we’ve been wanting to take him to Boston, NYC, Philadelphia and other great historical cities. Unfortunately my DIL won’t allow it unless she gets to go too. I don’t quite understand her reasons as when she was growing up she went on holidays with her grandparents every year. Sadly I think the grandkids will resent it all one day when they’re older. We are able to take them to the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World and Disneyland though. lol
We have a trip to the La Brea Tar Pits and the Getty Museum planned next month. I’m a true believer that culture and history are most important when kids are young and impressionable.

I love the idea of educational vacations! Unfortunately, we only ever go one place on vacation and that is Disney World. It can be highly educational though, especially Epcot with the “seas” and various countries.

We actually like planning educational vacations, whether that is combining history with a business conference or whatever. We agree that it is much more fun to learn about something in an interactive way. The children all love it too!
We’d love to visit the Grand Canyon, but there’s many battle sites that are on my husband’s list.
