NetSmartz – Teaching Internet Safety To our Tweens

588My oldest daughter is 10, going on 11…thinking she is 15.  She is pretty mature for her age so we got her a laptop for Christmas.  Thankfully, she has not been attached to the internet all that much.  She does get on the computer but she has not been spending too much time there.  Mainly she is on there researching things she wants to learn.

She wanted to start a blog, and we did allow her to do this.  At this time it is private and only for Family.  I don’t allow her in any chat programs, or programs where she can interact with strangers.  These things scare me. I don’t even let her walk around the block by herself yet.  Too many freaks and weirdos out there.

On the net…those weirdos and freaks have a lot more to hide behind to get to our kids! Now, here is where NetSmartz steps in.  NetSmartz, a leading resource of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, used their expertise to develop NSTeens to educate, engage, and empower kids as Internet users.  The world has changed a lot with all of this technology, and our kid’s are right there in it.  It’s become a part of life, and now it’s our responsibility to make sure they are responsible online.

As I was browsing the site I came across the Teaching Materials page.  This is a great tool! Below is just a sample of the educational resources that are offered.

I recommend you take the time to check out this site and share it with your children.  Thanks to Mom Central for giving us the heads up on this great site!

Hey my writing tablet posted on my blog is great for doing graphics work!!! I bought it to work on photos mostly. It came with Elements and another program (sorry can’t remember off the top of my head). I got it for $100.

It takes some getting used to but I love it already. some people say they can edit or create better with a mouse but I’m really liking the pen.
